CASCADE HEAD MUSIC FESTIVAL PRESENTS

THREE OREGON CHAMBER ENSEMBLES JUNE 12 -15, 2008

The Cascade Head Music Festival presents a weekend of classical chamber music performance from Oregon’s finest chamber ensembles June 12 -15, at the Lincoln City Cultural Center on the Central Oregon Coast. Chamber Ensembles are the DeRosa Ensemble on June 12, The Florestan Trio on June 13, and TonePoem on June 15. The Festival Weekend includes a free public family-oriented Encounter with the visiting musicians that includes demonstrations and conversation about the Weekend’s music.

“It’s really exciting to be part of a Festival with such a strong tradition of quality chamber music performance,” says Music Director, Keller Coker. “We hope to continue the tradition of excellent professional performance as well as offering both familiar and not-so-familiar pieces from three different Oregon trios.”

On Thursday June 12, DeRosa Ensemble will perform music by Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert, and Mozart as well as a set of traditional Tangos arranged for soprano, clarinet, violin and piano. The DeRosa Ensemble, under the artistic direction of clarinetist Dunja Jennings, includes pianist Susan Dewitt Smith, piano; and Justin Mackewich, violin. For the Cascade Head Festival De Rosa Ensemble will be joined for the Tangos by lyric soprano Misook Yun Boyd.

On Friday June 13, The Florestan Trio, described as "One of Oregon's musical treasures" by the Oregonian, offers a Ludwig von Beethoven program: Piano Trio No. 7, in B-flat major, Op. 97 and the "Archduke" Trio for Piano, Violin, and Violoncello No. 1 in D minor, Op. 49

. The Trio was founded in 1977 as ensemble in residence at Portland State University. Currently in its 31st season, the Florestan Trio’s Hamilton Cheifetz, cello and Carol Sindell, violin have been joined by pianist Janet Guggenheim. Internationally acclaimed for their brilliant and dynamic playing, the members of the trio have concertized throughout the United States, Canada, Asia and Europe.

On Sunday June 15, TonePoem performs a program of primarily classical music for piano and poetry. The trio includes pianists Diane Baxter and Jackie Morelli, and spoken word artist, Donna Henderson. TonePoem is dedicated to the dialogue between music and the spoken word and their programs are arranged to allow the music and poetry selections to resonate with one another in both obvious and subtle ways. The Sunday June 15 program will include music by Copland, Albright, Schumann, and Rollins with poems by Henderson, Nye, Laux, Dickinson and Amichai

June 12 and 13, concerts are at 7 p.m. and the Sunday June 15 concert is at 3 p.m. The public is welcome to a free family-oriented Encounter session 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 14.
