CASCADE HEAD MUSIC FESTIVAL

RAISES $7,000 IN APRIL FUNDRAISER

The Cascade Head Music Festival raised more than $7,000 in a fundraiser held April 27 at the Pacific Coast Center for Culinary Arts in Lincoln City. The Pinot Noir Jazztet featuring Sherry Alves and Adam Bates provided the musical entertainment. The group from Western Oregon University includes students from that college’s music department.

“We are so pleased with the way the community has supported the Festival,” said Peggy Hawker, board president. “Restaurants, auction donors, and gala patrons have been very generous. We hope everyone will save the date for the 3rd Annual Cascade Head Culinary Celebration.”

Food for the event was furnished by Andaman Thai Cuisine, The Bay House, Blackfish Café, Chinook Winds Casino, and The Wildflower Grill, with beverages from McMenamins Lighthouse Brewpub.

Chefs and/or proprietors of these restaurants were presented with Culinary Achievement Awards—individually inscribed copies of “Summer View from Cascade Head”, 16 in. X 20 in. framed photograph by Jack Doyle.

Keith Altomare of KBCH and the Bijou Theater was the emcee for the evening and conducted an auction and raffle which raised more than $2,500.

Keller Coker, the 2008 Music Director, discussed the Festival’s 2008 program.

He, along with Western Oregon colleagues Tom Bergeron and Diane Baxter, is advising and participating in the jazz and classical programs this summer.

This year’s Cascade Head Music Festival program will consist of a Jazz Series Weekend, May 30-June 1 and a Classical Series Weekend, June 12-15. Evening concerts are at 7 p.m. with one classical concert on Sunday at 3 p.m. and free, public Encounter sessions on June 1 at 4 p.m. and June 14 at 4 p.m. All the concerts will be held in the Lincoln City Cultural Center.
